8. Cobra CX65
Our list jumps from one of the more archaic minis on this list to one of the more modern with a brand that has only come onto the scene in the past 25 years but has made one hell of a dent on the mini-motocross scene, Cobra.
Originally from Ohio, the Michigan-based manufacturer has laid claim to more than 300 national motocross titles (according to its website) since it first hit the scene. The bike was immediately the center of controversy as there were doubts as to its actual production status. Cobra quickly proved that the machine was available right out of the crate, however, and the brand has since gone on to garner numerous amateur titles in the hands of riders destined to become household names in professional motocross, such as Davi Millsaps, Blake Baggett, Nico Izzy, Trey Canard, Eli Tomac, Ryan Dungey, Mike Alessi, Adam Cianciarulo, Cooper Webb, Zach Osborne and many more.
The current Cobra CX65 is just as technologically advanced as any state-of-the-art full-sized machine sporting such features as a liquid-cooled two-stroke engine with a patent-pending two-piece cylinder, direct acting computer controlled power valve and CARD Performance 37mm fork that features a conventionally damped leg a MXT “Smart Leg” that is dedicated to bottoming control.
Cobra is undoubtedly here to stay, and it deserves to be part of our 10 coolest minibikes list because it pushes the envelope in high-performance minis.
