4. Honda CT70
When ratcheting toward number one in our 10 coolest minibikes of all time list, it’s inevitable that we would move away from the performance-packed, purpose-built mini to the playful, more pedestrian trail minis, and the Honda CT70 deserves to be near the top of that list.
Honda produced gobs of CT70s from 1969 through 1994. Its compact, monocoque chassis was unique in that it placed the fuel tank under the seat, and its folding handlebars made the bike easy to store and transport. Early in the run, Honda sold the horizontal cylinder motor in two transmission variations, the centrifugal clutch, three-speed CT70 and the rarer and cooler manual clutch, four-speed CT70H—so if you can find the latter version, you’ll have something even cooler. The four-speed was discontinued, and Honda continued to build three-speed models to the end of the production run.
CT70s are still popular pitbikes to this day, and the older models have become highly collectible. So if you see one languishing in the corner of a neighbor’s barn or garage, buy it. If it happens to be a four-speed, contact us and we’ll buy it.
