2. Yamaha PW50
The Yamaha PW50 has been around since 1981, so just based on its longevity alone, it deserves a high rank on our 10 coolest mini bikes list, and it has fueled the passion of thousands of young mini riders over the decades.
The PW50—or YZinger as the model was known through 1990—is about as reliable a two-stroke as there ever has been. Its air-cooled, 49cc two-stroke isn’t tuned for screaming performance (although you’d be flat amazed at just how much power a tweaked PW engine can make and still live. Its centrifugal clutch and single-speed transmission can’t be any simpler, and its shaft-drive system offers the ultimate in maintenance-free operation. Even with its solid, 10-inch wheels, the diminutive PW tips the scales at just over 80 lbs., making it the perfect first ride for small first-time riders.
