9. Kawasaki KLX Four-Strokes
Similar to the Honda XR/CRF range, Kawasaki’s KLX four-strokes have a proven pedigree of reliability in a wide range of models. The KLX family has included everything from ultra-reliable SOHC air-cooled four-strokes in its playbike range to zippy, liquid-cooled dual sport and off-road models.
When dealing with the latter, fewer engine mods often equate to less chance of reliability issues, so be on the lookout for clean stock examples rather than heavily modified ones. Some of our personal favorites in the KLX line include the venerable KLX650 dual sport/adventure models, the older KLX300 off-roaders, KLX400 dual sports and the KLX 110/125/140 kids machines. Kawasaki also briefly made a KLX650R off-road machine, and they’re super-cool, but we would look carefully into parts availability before shelling out our dough for one.
