7. You Can Be an Advocate
It’s sad that some in the community still don’t fully take advantage of it, but being an off-road racer also gives one the opportunity to be a voice that supports the use of our nation’s public lands for OHV recreation. In addition to the efforts of groups such as the AMA and the BlueRibbon Coalition, off-road racers have a responsibility to remain informed and to make their voices heard when necessary to combat the ever-mounting pressure to take away our precious riding lands. You can make your voice heard by signing up for media alerts from these groups and actively taking part in any letter writing campaigns that oppose such land closures. And being an off-road use advocate also includes each trip to your favorite spot as you make sure to clean up trash generated by you and…yes, idiots who don’t pick up after themselves. We know. Sometimes you have to be the bigger person.
