We’re not suggesting that you should come and race your grandad’s Triumph, BSA, Greeves or other desert sled in the Vintage class (although many off-road races have one just for machines of bygone eras), but if you have that mid-‘80s, ‘90s or Y2K dirt bike just languishing in your garage, why not drag it out and ride an off-road race once in a while? Since off-road racing places a major emphasis on rider ability, having a good, dependable bike under you is more important than having the newest and trickest moto weapon. In fact, the reigning SCORE Baja 1000 Champion Ox Motorsports Honda team continues to win on Honda’s CRF450X like the one seen above. It is effectively a 13-year-old design. Older two-strokes, and Honda XRs also make excellent candidates for off-road racing mounts.
