10 Things You Didn’t Know About Land Speed Racing

While Land Speed Racing (LSR) may not appear to share a lot in common with dirtbike racing, the historic sport is carried out on a surface that is more akin to clay than asphalt. Here are 10 things you might not know about LSR.


6. Your top speed is only recorded in a one-mile speed trap in the middle of the course.

The one-mile speed trap is where your speed is officially measured. If you hit a higher speed after exciting the trap, it doesn’t count (the Ack Attack team claims it reached 400 mph after exiting the trap in 2010, though it isn’t on the books).
