9. Learn with other beginners.
Whenever possible, teach your beginner around other learning riders. For example, teach your wife/girlfriend around your friend’s wife/girlfriend who can come along. Teach your kid where there are other kids who are learning. It’s reassuring and less intimidating than if you’re among a group of more experienced riders. So many times I’ve seen the “No, I don’t want to hold you guys up,” excuse. And it’s understandable, since no one wants to be the weak link in the chain. But if your beginner can feel he/she is in familiar company, it’s a lot more welcoming and far less intimidating than being the odd one out.
If your beginner starts to get frustrated with you, ask a fellow novice rider to help out. Someone else who has recently learned can offer great insight and reassurance to another beginner, even if they have far less experience than you.
