7. 1972 Maico 400
Maico was really starting to hit its stride in the early 1970s, and the 400 “square barrel” was the machine that really established the German brand in the open class in motocross. Clean examples are not impossible to find, and parts can still be had through numerous Maico-fanatic parts suppliers in North America. There are even still some OE parts available (yes, the company still exists despite rumors to the contrary). If this were a radial head Maico, an AW model or a Mega model, we’d be all over it, but this one is just a little too early for our tastes. That doesn’t mean, however, that it won’t go for some righteous dough.
Our Max Bid: $5000
The Mecum Antique and Classic Motorcycle Auction returns to Las Vegas, January 25-28. Here’s a dirty dozen for which we’d definitely raise our paddle.
