6. 1970 Rickman Hodaka Super Rat
Elswhere on the Mecum site, there is a clean, stock example of Hodaka’s Super Rat, another machine that introduced a lot of folks to the wonderful world of motorcycle riding. But this Rickman-framed version really caught our eye. Most vintage dirtbike enthusiasts are well aware of how British motocross racing brothers Don and Derek Rickman began to produce aftermarket frames because of their dissatisfaction with the capabilities of OEM chassis when pushed hard off-road. The Rickmans went on to build their gorgeous chassis for off-road-worthy engine under the sun, from AJS to Zundapp. Any Rickman is worthy of collection, and if this were a British four-stroke-powered model or a Rickman Montesa 250, we might be more interested than just curious. Cool bike, though.
