12 Bikes We’d Bid On at the Mecum Motorcycle Auction

The Mecum Antique and Classic Motorcycle Auction returns to Las Vegas, January 25-28. Here’s a dirty dozen for which we’d definitely raise our paddle.

4. 1963 Matchless Metisse Scrambler

This one is a bit of a question mark. There’s no question that this 1963 Matchless Metisse Scrambler is clearly well used, and while even a thrashed Rickman Metisse of any stripe is worth money, Mecum is claiming that this particular machine may have a tie-in to Rickman company co-founder Derek Rickman. The machine’s current owner claims that it was ridden to a third-place finish at the 1963 Hawkstone GP and a sixth-place finish at the same event in 1964. For us, the provenance would need to be there before we ponied up any serious bidding money. This bike could sell for well over $20,000. Or not.
