6. Honda XR650L
Some diehards still lament the loss of Honda’s XR line of off-road four-strokes, but the Honda XR650L continues the XR’s great legacy in a versatile Dual Sport package (while also keeping those XR riders current when it comes time to shop for XR parts). The 650L’s Radial Four Valve Combustion (RFVC) engine technology dates all the way back to 1983, and its air-cooled, 644cc engine is so reliable that it probably wouldn’t quit running even if you tossed a grenade at it. The overall package is on the hefty side, but its sturdy steel chassis, conventional fork and Pro-Link rear suspension are up to the task of heavy trail use, and the bike readily accepts modifications to make it even more dirt-worthy without sacrificing its road usability. This machine has been in Honda’s lineup for a long time, and we hope it stays there for a long time to come.
