3. Tire Irons
And back to tires we go! A good set of tire spoons is a must for anyone who doesn’t want to pay the local moto mechanic a half-hour (or more) labor rate to pull a tire from a rim. As we’ve learned from watching Jay Clark’s excellent tire replacement video, a successful tire change is all about being smart and having the right tools on hand to do the job. When it comes to levering a tire off a rim, flat-bladed screwdrivers don’t cut it because, well, they cut it—the tube, that is. We’re okay with using just two smooth, spoon-shaped tire irons to peel and replace our tires, but some people like to use three. Nothing wrong with that.
