Sharing 95% of the parts found on Ryan Dungey’s 2015 AMA Supercross Championship winner, the 2017 KTM 450 XC-F gets all the new chassis and suspension goodies found on the rest of the 2017 KTM Enduro and XC family with one notable exception, the suspension.

The 450 XC-F’s 449.3cc engine is all-new, featuring many of the same changes found on the 2017 KTM 500 EXC-F, although many of these changes were undoubtedly spawned by the KTM 450 SX-F motocross machine. The new liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, SOHC, four-valve Single features smore compact dimensions thanks to all-new cases and a 6mm shorter cylinder that help reduce engine weight by four pounds. KTM claims that the engine is the lightest 450cc engine on the off-road market. With a reworked single overhead camshaft cylinder head and the latest Keihin electronic fuel injection, the 450 XC-F produced a claimed 62 horsepower at the output shaft.

2017-KTM-WP-AER-48-fork-05172016Instead of the WP 48 XPlor fork and shock, the 450 XC-W is fitted with a WP AER 48 fork and WP large reservvior shock mated to a rising-rate linkage system (no PDS here) similar to what is found on the 2017 KTM motocross models but with suspension settings designed for use in North American-style off-road competition. Front wheel travel is a claimed 12.2 inches while rear wheel travel is claimed 11.8 inches.

The 48mm AER fork utilizes a split design with an insulated air spring in one leg, and it is claimed to be 3.7 pounds lighter than the WP 4CS fork it replaces. Preload adjustment is accomplished via a single air pressure valve in the left leg while the fork’s damping adjustment is handled via clickers on the on the right leg.
