KTM promises 450cc power character and 250cc handling traits in the 2017 KTM 350 XC-F cross-country machine and 350 EXC-F dual-sport. The power for both comes from a new, 349.7cc, DOHC four-stroke Single designed to be more compact and more powerful than the previous version. It is also fitted with the latest Keihin electronic fuel-injection system and 44mm Kehin throttle body. The new engine is 20mm shorter than old design while being a claimed two pounds lighter than the old engine.

New valve springs and retainers help control the motion of the 350 XC-F’s four lightweight titanium valves (intake 36.3 mm, exhaust 29.1 mm) KTM says that the new engine delivers 58 horsepower at the output shaft and revs to 13,400 rpm. The 350 EXC-F isn’t in quite as high a state of tune, with a rev ceiling limited to 12,000 rpm.

The redesigned cylinder houses an 88mm bore with a lightened, forged bridged box-type piston made by CP and featuring a new crown shape to match the new combustion chamber. Compression ratio for is 14:1 for the XC-F and 12.3:1 for the EXC-F. Naturally, the EXC-F is also designed to be emissions friendly for use on the highway and on public land.

The 350 XC-F and 250 EXC-F chassis redesigns mimic that of the rest of the off-road family. The 350 EXC-F receives the WP AER 48 air fork and WP rear shock/linkage suspension arrangement found on the KTM 450 XC-F while the 350 EXC-F receives the new EP XPlor suspension with a PDS arrangement out back.
