Differing by their intended missions, all of KTM’s 250cc and 300cc off-road two-strokes feature similar changes within the XC and XC-W lines.

The base powerplant is a Twin Valve Control power valve-equipped liquid-cooled two-stroke with a bore and stroke of 72mm x 72mm for the 300s and 66.4mm x 72mm for the 250s. All four models make use of six-speed transmissions and hydraulic-operated DDS (Damped Diaphragm Steel) clutches, and all are fueled by Mikuni TMX 38mm carburetors. The XC models feature a WP AER 48 fork while the XC-W’s are equipped with a WP XPlorer 48 fork. The XC’s also use rising-rate linkage rear suspension while the XC-W’s feature linkageless PDS rear suspension.
