Although not yet a household name among the more cottage-industry dirtbike brands on the market today, Portuguese manufacturer AJP continues to push forward toward the mainstream in its respective categories with constant development of its off-road and rally dirtbike line.
AJP just released word of its 2018 offerings today, and there is some significant news, including its the availability of a race-only off-road version of the AJP PR7 Rally 600 (a street-legal version may be available in 2019, according to the company). The entire line of 2018 AJP motorcycles also gains a little more oomph in the electrical department via the switch to Shorai lithium batteries as standard equipment. According to AJP, the Shorai sheds 4 lbs. from each bike while also providing more reliable cranking power for the electric starting system on each machine. Also, the entire AJP line will now be shipped with Spectro motorcycle oil in their respective engines.
Hmm, maybe AJP’s 2Easy 2Buy program is worth another look.

2018 AJP PR7 Rally 600, $9995
The PR7 boasts 600cc, DOHC, fuel-injected engine manufactured by Italian motorcycle builder SWM. Power is fed through a six-speed transmision. Other engine highlights include a Doma full-race exhaust, carbon fiber air intake and a race-spec ECU. The engine is housed in a new-generation frame with off-road-tuned suspension from Sachs. Billet triple clamps, billet footpegs, and billet bar mounts are all standard equipment. To keep the stand-over height narrow and low, the PR7’s 4.6-gallon fuel tank is mounted under the seat. The PR7’s rally-style tower incorporates a effective windscreen, dual stacked headlamps and a removable ASUS tablet computer. The Android-based tablet allows the user to load navigation and other apps and web-based software, and AJP claims that it is designed to be able to withstand any weather condition.
Only a limited number of PR7’s will be available this year. MSRP for the bike has been set at will be available.

AJP’s PR5 Enduro 250 sports a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, SOHC, four-valve engine manufactured by Zongshen of China wrapped in a chrome-moly steel chassis. Changes for 2018 include an aluminum AJP muffler with a removable quiet-insert to reduce exhaust restriction for closed-course competition and cast footpegs that offer better mud-clearing ability. The PR5 also receives the new Shorai battery and Spectro oil.

2018 AJP PR5 Extreme Enduro 250, $7499
The AJP PR5 Extreme Enduro 250 builds on the strengths of the standard PR5 by adding more trick components such as a full factory exhaust, factory brake and wheel package and upgraded suspension. A fully adjustable Sachs 48mm upgraded fork is used up front. Braking is handled by Galfer oversize wave rotors front and rear. A Doma titanium/carbon fiber full factory race exhaust system replace the standard PR5 system while bits such as the red anodized aluminum shift lever with AJP logo and red anodized aluminum brake pedal are tell-tale differences as well. The frame and subframe also receive a Cherry Red Metallic color to match the wheelset and powder coated hubs.

2018 AJP PR4 Enduro 240, $4999
The 2018 AJP PR4 Enduro 240 sports the same Zongshen-manufactured, air-cooled, 233cc, SOHC, four-stroke engine as its predecessor. Changes for 2018 include a FastAce USD 43mm Fork that is adjustable for compression and rebound. The new fork is held in place by a new billet aluminum triple clamp that is of a larger diameter and also stronger than cast clamps. A new Reikon tapered aluminum handlebar is clamped by billet aluminum bar clamps with a reversible offset feature to fit riders of various sizes. Like the rest of the line, the PR4 receives the new Shorai battery and Spectro oil.

2018 AJP PR4 Extreme Enduro 240, $5999
Based on the AJP PR4 Enduro 240, the 2018 PR4 Extreme Enduro adds such parts as a Belparts Exhaust “bomb-style” header and a free-flowing muffler for more power at all rpm. The fully adjustable 48mm Sachs fork is the same model used on the AJP PR5 Extreme. Galfer oversized wave rotors handle front and rear braking. The PR4 Extreme Enduro is also equipped with billet aluminum footpegs. The frame, subframe and wheels sport a Candy Red Metallic color. The PR4 Extreme Enduro’s hubs are also powder coated hubs to match.
