Cody Webb Wins 2016 Salt Lake City EnduroCross

FMF KTM Factory Racing’s Cody Webb stopped Colton Haaker’s 2016 AMA EnduroCross Championship win streak by stepping up and grabbing a win of his own during round three of the seriest at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, Saturday night.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna-backed Haaker pulled the holeshot in the Pro main event, but Webb quickly moved into second place. Haaker then bobbled on lap two and Webb was able to capitalize and move into the lead. Haaker would shadow Webb for most of the rest of the 15-lap main event before crashing and allowing Webb to pull clear for his first AMA EnduroCross win of 2016. stuck close and took advantage of a small mistake to take the lead on lap two. The two top dogs of EnduroCross had a back and forth battle as Haaker closed a few times only to make a mistake and even hit the deck in a slick corner once to allow Webb to gain the gap needed to take the win.

After qualifying quickest in the Hot Lap competition, Rockstar EnergyHusqvarna’s Mike Brown battled with Gas Gas-backed Geoff Aaron, passing the former AMA National Trials Champion to grab third place. RPM KTM’s Ty Tremaine finished fifth ahead of Beta USA’s Kyle Redmond. Canadian Husqvarna rider Trystan Hart was seventh, Beta USA’s Max Gerston was eighth and Eric Rhoten was ninth. Kevin Rookstool was 10th. Former series champion Taddy Blazusiak had a bit of a scare when his KTM’s handlebar stuck him in the groin when he crashed. Blazusiak was not seriously hurt, but he was forced to withdraw from the main event.

With the win, Webb, the reigning series champion, has pulled back to within one point of Haaker in the 2016 AMA EnduroCross Championship series points standings. Haaker still leads, 74-73.
