Ducati’s Scrambler range continues to expand and here’s the new “Scrambler X Desert Sled,” which debuted at EICMA 2016.
Inspired by the bikes of the 1960/70 era in South-West California and campaigned in events such as Mexico’s Baja California when street bikes were stripped and modified to suit the desert conditions. The Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled certainly revives that image with modern up-dates in spite of the totally different engine unit with the factory placing it in the “easy off-road“ category.
The frame is reinforced for off-road use and a new aluminium swinging arm installed, 19 and 17” wire wheels are fitted with Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres and the new seat unit has a height of 860 mm (33.86”). Notice the high front and rear mudguards, engine skid plate, headlight with mesh guard and off-road style foot pegs, while handlebars are tapered and reinforced.
Suspension is quality Kayaba with adjustable USD forks with 7.87” of travel and an adjustable rear shock with a separate gas cartridge. The teardrop tank is in steel with interchangeable side panels and ready for any tough desert use.
The original Scrambler Desmodue 803cc twin air/oil cooled motor and six-speed transmission are designed for smooth running and fluid acceleration throughout the rev range, producing 75 horsepower at 8250 rpm and 68 of torque at 5750 rpm due to a new throttle control and engine calibration. Attractive to the desert rider will be the 7500 miles interval between servicing. Riders wishing to personalize their new Desert Sled already have a choice of accessories available, including twin front spot lights, handguards, an approved high level exhaust system and more.
The Ducati Scrambler X Desert Sled should indeed prove very popular with riders seeking a really user-friendly classic off-roader.
