With $1 million on the line for the winner of the three Main Events, live coverage of the Monster Energy Cup on FOX Sports 2 opens with a 30-minute pre-show hosted by play-by-play announcer Ralph Sheheen, with analysts Jeff Emig and Ricky Carmichael. FOX Sports’ Jenny Taft will serve as the pit reporter.
“Not only will fans be able to once again witness live coverage from this year’s Monster Energy Cup on FOX Sports 2 and FOX Sports Go App, fans will be able to re-live the million-dollar-race on FOX during the October 26 broadcast,” said Ken Hudgens, COO, Feld Motor Sports. “Positioning the Monster Energy Cup following NFL on FOX illustrates the network’s commitment to the sport with more announcements to come in the future.”
“Last year was our first-ever live race on FOX Sports 2 to a new audience, and having this year’s race on FOX in front of a national audience coming out of NFL football is not only great for my team and sponsors, but the entire sport,” said former Monster Energy Supercross Champion Ryan Dungey.
“We’re happy to be able to showcase the Monster Energy Cup and supercross racing in one of our strongest broadcast windows,” said Patrick Crakes, FOX Sports SVP of Programming, Research and Content Strategy. “It’s a tremendous, action-packed event that continues to appeal to younger audiences.”
Riders will be racing for the $1 million through three 10-lap Main Events on a track designed by 15-time AMA National Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track consists of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. The staples in last year’s track including the split start, joker lane and running the track into the stands will remain but Carmichael has once again improved several items.
The riders will leave the gate on an inclined start before they split apart and race into the 180 degree bowl turns. This unique start will be 200 yards in length and will require speeds that will exceed 70 miles per hour. The joker lane will also be longer than what the riders are used to. Additionally, the Monster Energy Cup will feature the AMSOIL Arch, which is a large, 150’ sweeper turn that extends into the stands. Like years past, to keep up with the demanding nature of this one-of-a-kind track, teams are given the opportunity to use on-board communication, traction control, GPS and more.
