The Cooper Webb freight train kept-a-rollin’ during round three of the Monster Energy AMA 250SX West Series at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, Saturday night.

The Yamalube/Star Racing/Yamaha-backed Webb made it three for three as he once again came from behind to card another main event win and remain undefeated thus far in the 250SX West Series, but this one didn’t come without a spectacular fight.

Out-qualified only by fast qualifier Zach Osborne of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna team and then outrun in the first heat race by GEICO Honda’s Christian Craig, Webb would find himself having to battle with both riders as well as Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy after running fifth, behind all three of them and teammate Alex Martin on the opening lap. Craig took the lead, followed by Savatgy and Osborne. Martin quickly fell out of contention for a podium finish, and Savatgy saw his chances for the win all but disappear when he lost control in the whoops and crashed on lap six.

That effectively handed the runner-up spot to Webb, who then closed in on Craig. However, catching the leader was one thing, but passing him was quite another. In an intense battle that saw the lead change between Craig and Webb 13 times–and eight alone in just two laps–Webb finally managed to assume total control of the race before pulling out to a 4.6-second margin of victory.

Osborne also found his way past Craig to finish second. Craig held on for third place, ahead of the recovered Savatgy and GEICO Honda’s Jimmy Decotis. Jordon Smith, Kyle Cunningham, Colt Nichols, Mitchell Oldenburg and Kyle Peters completed the top 10.

The Monster Energy AMA 250SX West title fight continues at the next round, scheduled for the O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California, January 30.
