Team HRC’s Gautier Paulin suffers a serious back injury while practicing in Lommel, Belgium.
Team HRC’s Gautier Paulin of France will be out of action for several weeks after suffering a back injury while practicing in Lommel, Belgium, last weekend.
The crash occurred when the front wheel of Paulin’s factory Honda hit a soft spot in the track while he was landing from a jump. The bike stopped, sending Paulin over the bars, and the bike then landed on top of him. Gautier suffered a broken vertebrae and a broken rib in the accident.
Gautier was immediately checked by local motocross specialist Dr. Claes and, after initial inspection it was determined that the fracture appears to be stable and that there was no spinal cord damage. Gautier was permitted to return home where he will continue to see his local doctors to further determine his condition and assess his recovery time. No target date has been set for his return to the FIM Motocross World Championship.
Paulin is currently tied for 11th with Valentin Guillod in the MXGP points standings, with 37 points. He finished 16th overall after suffering a DNF in the second moto of the opening round in Qatar, but he improved to seventh overall via 7-9 finishes at round two in Thailand.
