The path to the 2016 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship is revealed.
MX Sports, producer of the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, has announced the 2016 Area Qualifier and Regional Championship schedule.
Qualifiers for the 2016 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship will be held in 33 states, starting with the 54 Area Qualifiers that begin in February and run through the end of May. The 13 regional championships will run in eight locations throughout the country, taking place in late May and through the month of June.
Tim Cotter, Director of MX Sports, said that the qualifiers and regional championships are located so as to minimize travel time for the country’s amateur racers who wish to attempt to qualify for the ocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship.
“It has been the goal to provide Area Qualifier opportunities within 150 miles from every rider, and in most cases we were able to accomplish this goal,” Cotter said. “The Area Qualifier and Regional Championship organizers are the backbone of the Amateur National, and we
continue to see improvements in both the facilities and organizational skills of the promoters that participate in the program.”
The area qualifiers serve as the first step in qualifying. The regional championships then serve as the next step to seed riders into the National Championship. Only riders who finish in a qualifying position at a regional championship are eligible to race the National the week of August 1-6. AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow said that with so many outstanding race tracks and AMA motocross organizers to choose from, one would think that the selection process for the area qualifiers and regional championships would be an easy task.
“I can assure you it is not,” Bigelow said, “but all that work pays off, however, because the racers are treated to exceptional tracks and facilities in great locations all across America. With the schedule now complete, the AMA and our promoting partner, MX Sports, can move our focus on working with the organizers to provide the best race experience possible at each of these events.”
This year’s lineup once again includes the many National-caliber tracks. From the historic Unadilla MX and High Point Raceway in the Northeast, to Washougal in the Northwest. The tour will also return to many other favorites such as the Southeast’s Muddy Creek Raceway, RedBud MX in the Mid-East and Thunder Valley MX Park in the South Central region. Brand new additions to the 2016 Regional Championship schedule include Texas’ Oak Hill Raceway in the South Central region and Wisconsin’s Motozone in the North Central region. Both tracks have played an integral part of the National program for years serving as Area Qualifiers, but will now host the youth regionals for their respective region.
