Bel-Ray Husqvarna Hard Enduro competitor Alfredo Gomez is out with a broken left foot.
Bel-Ray Husqvarna rider Alfredo Gomez suffered a broken left foot while preparing for the Red Bull Romaniacs Hard Enduro, and will undergo surgery to repair the damage.
Gomez was training for the Red Bull Romaniacs by taking part in the Gordexola Extreme Enduro in Spain this past weeekend. After winning Friday’s prologue, he took an early lead in the race before a heavy crash 10 minutes after the start of the main event caused a compound fracture of the metatarsal bone in his left foot.
Gomez’s injury is another setback to Husqvarna’s World-level racing efforts, as the Spaniard has been competitive all season. He recently placed fourth in the Red Bull Hare Scramble at Erzberg and was the runner-up at the 2913 Red Bull Romaniacs. Xavi Galindo, Bel-Ray Husqvarna’s Extreme Enduro Team Manager, said that the foot injury rules Gomez out of the 2014 Red Bull Romaniacs.
“After overcoming appendicitis earlier this year, Alfredo was getting back to his best,” Galindo said. “A podium result at The Tough One and Hard Enduro Piatra Neamt plus fourth place at the Red Bull Hare Scramble was proof of that. He was working hard to be ready for the Red Bull Romaniacs and was in a strong position to better his runner-up result of 2013. Due to the nature of the injury it’s still too early to tell how long Alfredo’s recovery will take, but our immediate concern is to ensure that it will be a healthy one.”
