Defending FIM X-Trial World Champion Toni Bou gains a share of the series points lead with with the Barcelona X-Trial win.
Reigning FIM X-Trial World Champion Toni Bou of Spain got back to his winning ways and assumed the 2016 X-Trial series points co-lead by carding his 10th win at the 2016 Trial Indoor Solo Moto, aka the Barcelona X-Trial, in his home country of Spain, Saturday.
Bou set the pace early, easily cruising into the Final by becoming the only rider in the field to clean the course. The Final itself hosted a brilliant battle between Bou and fellow Spaniard Adam Raga, the latter the winner of the opening round of the series in Sheffield, England. Bou prevailed over Raga despite suffering a 10-foot fall in section five–an obstacle that no one in the Final field was able to clean.
“Clearly I’m very happy: winning in Barcelona is always very important,” Bou said. “Besides, after the second place in Sheffield and such a short championship, it’s difficult to come here and not be nervous. On the first lap I felt more comfortable than on the second one where I started really well and was able to mark the difference in section three by taking some risks. But later in section five I had a problem, but I was able to overcome it. It was a labored victory with a lot of nerves, but I’m very satisfied with the result as far as the World Championship goes.”
