Swedish brand Husqvarna was founded in 1689 as a firearm manufacturer but began producing bicycles in the late 19th century before venturing into motorcycles in 1903. In 1987, the company sold its motorcycle division to Cagiva (which in part was part of MV Agusta). BMW purchased the brand in 2007 and introduced the company's first road bikes, but sold Husqvarna off to KTM's CEO Stefan Pierer in 2013.
