Former World Motocross Champion Christophe Pourcel is back for another run at an AMA title.
Yamaha Motor Corporation is announced that former World Motocross Champion Christophe Pourcel will be returning to America to contest the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championshi with a new factory-backed team, Valli Motorosports, adding to Yamaha’s event presence alongside the JGR Toyota Yamaha, Yamalube Star Racing and CycleTrader Rock River teams.
Valli Motorsports team owner Chad Lanza has been working behind the scenes for the last few months to put a team together with the sole intention of bringing the AMA 250cc National Motocross Championship back to Yamaha, and he worked with the company to find the right rider for the job. Pourcel has a proven history as a front runner During the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Pourcel won the Monster Energy AMA 250cc East Supercross Championship, but he finished a disappointing second overall in the Lucas Oil 250cc Pro Motocross Championship despite being one of the most dominant riders in the class.
“When I came to America I had one goal, and that was to win the AMA 250 Motocross National title,” Pourcel said. “I came so close but never realized my goal. That fire still burns, and the minute I had the opportunity to make another run at the title, on a bike as good as the 2014 YZ250F, I jumped at it.”
Valli Motorsports announced that it has also hired a new team manager, Erik Kehoe, who has a long history with Yamaha during his tenure at Yamaha of Troy.
“Some of my best years as a team manager were with Yamaha,” Kehoe said. “They gave me my first shot at being a team manager and I remember quite fondly Ernesto Fonseca winning that first championship in his rookie year and then following it up right after with the then revolutionary YZ250F. I think we can recapture that magic with Pourcel and the 2014 YZ250.F”
Valli Motorsports Yamaha and Christophe Pourcel will begin their assault on the Lucas Oil AMA 250cc Pro Motocross Championship at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California, May 24. For more Yamaha racing news, results, photos, videos, and more, check out www.YamahaMotorsports.com/Racing.
