So, what kind of dirtbike do you own anyway?
We dirtbike afficionados share one thing in common, our love for leaving the tarmac behind and slinging roost on our favorite track or trail, but we all have preferences for what type of vehicle we use to do it.
Take your typical motocross guy or girl for example. He or she may or may not even race motocross, but at least once a week you’ll find a whole bunch of them pounding berms and flying over jumps during the open track days at their local MX park. A lot of them might never even think of heading out across the open desert or into the woods. The track is where it’s at for them. Give them a good moto machine and a pickup truck or trailer to get it there, and they are all set.
Then you have your hard-core off-road riders. Again, they may or may not race, but they make sure to load up every weekend and head for the hills to log some serious miles on single track trails and fire roads. Their skills can range from the casual trail rider on the playbike to the extreme enduro rider who can scale sheer rock walls with a 300cc two-stroke. Once again, this crowd has no use for pavement whatsoever.
We can lump the next two groups more or less together. Dual sport riders and Adventure riders may never see a track unless it is a single-track or two-track road, but they not only love the dirt, they’re more than willing to burn some miles on the highway to reach their favorite riding area. For the Adventure crowd, that area may extend between two states or provinces. As long as there’s an open trail, they’re on it. And when they run out of trail, they jump back on the highway and head for home.
Of course, there are a lot of dirtbike owners who like to try their hand at all of these disciplines, so owning one example of the specialized motorcycles listed in our poll may not be enough. They need to have one of each! Believe us when we say that the motorcycle industry loves those folks.
So we thought we’d take a moment to ask DirtBikes.com readers just what type or types of dirtbikes occupy space in their garage, shed, living room… whatever. Feel free to select more than one of the listed categories as needed, and if you own one example of each type of dirtbike listed, then go ahead and select the “I own one of each” box.
Of course, if you don’t own a dirtbike, we’ve listed a box for you to check, and we feel sorry for you.
Have at it!
