Check out the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto and 401 Svartpilen…that’s okay, we didn’t know that it means either.
Husqvarna Motorcycles unveiled three new models this week at the EICMA Motorcycle Show in Milan, Italy, two of which should appeal to dirtbike riders looking for a properly styled daily commuter, the 701 Supermoto and the 401 Svartpilen.
As of right now, only the 701 Supermoto is slated for production. The 701 boasts a brawny, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine that puts out a claimed 67 horsepower and is governed by a ride-by-wire throttle control and Engine Management System. Husqvarna says that the 701 Supermoto’s chassis bristles with WP suspension, dedicated Supermoto ABS and and APTC slipper clutch. Husqvarna claims a weight figure of 145kg (319 lbs.) for the package.
The Husqvarna 401 Svartpilen (“Black Arrow” in Swedish) is actually not a production model but rather a concept bike designed to fuel the imagination and serve as a figurative sonar ping for potential future products. Husky says that the Svarrpilen is a golden-age inspired modern street bike that draws its design ethos from past iconic Husqvarnas. Imparting a sort of bobber/desert sled/street scrambler look, its styling reflects a bare-minimum approach. Power comes from a lightweight, fuel-injected, single-cylinder four-stroke engine in a compact chassis with what Husqvarna calls a more upright, comfortable and natural riding position–designed to reflect the timeless authenticity evident in the growing revival of the motorcycling scene.
Time will tell if the 401 Svartpilen becomes part of the street scene, but if it does, we’re betting it would make an excellent stablemate to that high-fendered moto or off-road machine in your garage.
