Okay, so we don’t understand why Off Road Forever named its video clip collection, celebrating the classic endo, 9 deadly dirt bike nose dives, since it doesn’t appear that anyone was killed.
However, there’s something compelling about the endo that just drew us to this particular crash video immediately. Our two cents is that the endo is right up there with the case-out when it comes to experiencing aerial terror on a dirtbike. In both cases, the rider is often given sufficient time to realize just exactly what’s coming and what price will be paid when gravity finally gets its due.
Our friends over at Dirt Bike Magazine used to make a whole bunch of money with a semi-annual special called Crash and Burn, which was nothing more than a collection of crash photos submitted by various staffers and freelancers. I still have quite a few copies of Crash and Burn, and while I haven’t looked at them in a while, I can already visualize some of the most memorable pics in them. Aside from the occasional Bike-B-Cue, almost all of the shots that leap into my mind are, you guessed it, endo shots.
And I think I know why that’s the case. Maybe it’s because, like hara-kiri, there’s something strangely beautiful in dirtbiking’s equivalent to falling on the sword. Or maybe it’s because there’s a certain gracefulness to the art of the endo. Whatever the case, the endo will always be a site to behold, and 9 deadly dirt bike nose dives captures what we’d consider to be a good eight of them anyway.
We hope you’ve never experienced a grinder of an endo yourself, but if you have, you can certainly relate to what these poor souls experienced before, during and after the completion of their tragic trajectories. Heck, on of them even comes courtesy of MXGP star Jeffrey Herlings, and he’s one of the best riders in the world. So, yes, and endo could happen to you, too.
