Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Gavin Faith edged one step closer to the 2016 AMSOIL Arenacross Championship with a sweep of both nights of racing at the Idaho Ford Center in Nampa, Idaho, last weekend. Rockstar Energy Drink Husqvarna Factory Racing-backed Kyle Bitterman did the same, also swept the Western Regional Arenacross Lites class.

Friday
TZR/Woodstock KTM’s Travis Sewell grabbed the early lead, bringing Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki teammates Faith and Chris Blose along with him. The top three riders settled into a consistent pace, with neither FAith nor Blose gaining an advantage on each other or Sewell, who led the entire 15 laps to take his first Road to the Championship main event win. Faith ran second, and Blose was third. Rockstar Energy Drink Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kyle Regal posted his best finish in the Race to the Championship by coming home fourth while TiLUBE/TUF Racing Honda’s Ben Lamay was fifth.

Steven Mages grabbed the lead in the second main event. Blose got a slightly better start to run second with Sewell third. Faith ran fourth, ahead of Regal and Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Jacob Hayes. Mages began to pull clear of the field while Faith passed Sewell for third on lap one. Locked in a struggle for the championship, Faith and BLose engaged in a titanic battle for postion starting on lap nine, with Faith making the pass for second place, only to have Blose fight back in a side-by-side battle that brought the crowd to its feet. Faith held off Blose for the position. Mages went on to lead every lap and take his first main event win of the season, with Faith second. Blose finished third, with Hayes and Regal completing the top five after Sewell crashed and dropped him fourth to ninth on the last lap.

Faith’s back-to-back runner-up finishes gave him the overall win over Blose, who finished third in both main events. Mages’ win in the second main event gave him 6-1 scores to net third overall. Regal secured his best result of the Race to the Championship with fourth overall, and Sewell was fifth overall. Faith’s win put him into a tenuous series lead, just one point ahead of Blose in the race for the Ricky Carmichael Cup. H

Saturday
TiLUBE/TUF Racing Honda’s Jace Owen grabbed the holeshot in the first of two Arenacross main events on Saturday night, but Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki riders Faith and Blose passed Owen to run one-two. However, Blose tangled with Faith while trying to cut inside him, and both men hit the deck. That allowed another Team Babbitt’s/Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki rider, Jacob Hayes, to take the early lead ahead of TiLUBE/TUF Racing Honda’s Ben Lamay and Regal. Faith remounted and completed the first lap in sixth place.

Although the running order behind him shuffled throughout the race, Hayes took his first main event win in a Race to the Championship round with with Sewell second and Faith in third. Regal was fourth, with Owen fifth.

Faith was first to the front when the second main event got underway, while Blose and Owen ran second and third respectively. After starting fourth, Hayes was able to pass Owen for third. From there the top three remained unchanged with Faith carrying scoring his first Race to the Championship win to net the overall victory. Hayes (1-3) finished second overall, and Sewell (2-4) finished third overall.Faith’s win moved him to eight points ahead of Blose, who finished fourth overall, 189-181.
