In our opinion dirtbike crashes are something that can be looked back upon with a laugh so long as the rider who takes the hit doesn’t suffer any permanent damage.
Of course, thanks to the proliferation of sports action cameras by GoPro, Garmin, Sony and the like, a majority of the clips you’ll see on YouTube and other user-generated outlets come from the rider’s point-of-view, and many of them are far low-speed shunts that are far from spectacular.
Not this time. YouTuber Knark71 has put together a series of pretty high-speed crash clips that really illustrate the grinding abuse that bikes, bodies and action cams have to endure sometimes. There are some real beauties here.
Some of the clips that really caught our eye include the one that appears around 1:46 into the video, in which the crasher is clearly doing whatever he can to make the pass on his buddy, only to have it go really, really wrong. Then there’s the clip at 2:21 that left us wondering what exactly happened at first, only to find see the trail of carnage when the rider stands up and looks back down the track. But it gets funny when he finally figures out where his bike went. Right behind that one is a skyshot of such epic proportions that it almost looks like a freestyle MX stunt.
Some of these dirtbike faux pas will make you laugh, and some will make you wince. Rest assured, these videos will never go out of style, and we’ll keep mining our favorite social media channels to share them when we find them. Here’s to hoping that we never see any footage from your helmet cam.
