ROME, Ga. (Aug.15, 2017)–Pirelli Tires North America extends its congratulations to Matt Goerke and the Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha team on capturing the 2017 CMRC Motocross National Championship in the MX1 class. The 10th–and final–round of the season was held at RJ Motorsports Park in Barrie, Ontario on Sunday, August 13.

Florida’s Matt Goerke landed his third career CMRC MX1 Canadian National Championship on August 13.

Goerke, who was competing aboard a Yamaha YZ450F equipped with SCORPION MX tires, won all three of his MX1 championships (2012, 2015, and 2017) aboard Pirelli-shod motorcycles.

“It’s an incredible feeling to bring home another championship,” Goerke said. “Pirelli tires were a huge part of my championships. I’ve been with Pirelli since 2012. Having the best tires in all race conditions is crucial, and Pirelli always delivers!”

Goerke entered the weekend with a 15-point advantage over his closest competitor, but was faced with adversity throughout the day and the championship came down to the final laps. In the first moto, a mistake early in the race cost Goerke valuable time and left him outside of the top 20. He put his head down and quickly picked off riders one by one before eventually crossing the checkered flag in sixth place.

Goerke rode to 6-3 moto scores to clinch his third Canadian MX1 title at RJ Motorsports Park in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

As the star-studded field roared down the start straight to begin the second and final moto of the season, Goerke found himself near the front of the field and in the perfect position. He used his veteran experience to race smart, consistent and mistake free, crossing the line in third place. The 6-3 moto scores were good enough for third overall on the day and the class championship.
