Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Colton Haaker put himself in the catbird seat to collect his first career AMA EnduroCross Championship after scoring his fifth Pro main event win of the year when the next-to-last round of the series convened at Boise’s Ford Idaho Center last night.
Haaker maximized his point tally by earning bonus points for winning his heat race and also by carding the quickest time in the Hot Lap session that determined the starting positions for the front row in the Pro main event. Haaker used that spot to full advantage to pull the holeshot. Meanwhile, his main title rival, Cody Webb, crashed and was struck by other riders. Webb was able to get back in the race.
Haaker held a solid lead, only to lose positions in the wood pit on lap two. Haaker’s miscue handed the lead to Beta-mounted Kyle Redmond for the next five laps, but Haaker was able to pass Redmond and retake the lead on lap six. Webb, who charged through the field from the back of the pack, passed Redmond for second place one lap later, and he closed on Haaker. But it was too little too late. Haaker went on to collect the win. Webb finished second, and Redmond finished third, marking his first podium finish of the season.
“I got the Holeshot and was riding really good but got stuck the first six laps.” Haaker said. “I saw Cody crash several times, and he was going down hard and still managed to catch me because I was getting stuck in the firewood, but I have been on the other side of that. It felt good to get another win.”
Trystan Hart finished fourth ahead of Cory Graffunder, Mike Brown and Ty Tremaine. Ty Cullins, Geoff Aaron and Noah Kepple completed the top 10.
