Colton Haaker hangs tough in his quest to wrestle the GEICO EnduroCross title away from Cody Webb.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Colton Haaker pulled off an important win at the Ford Idaho Center in Boise, Idaho, Saturday night, to keep himself alive in the 2015 GEICO AMA EnduroCross Series title chase.
Haaker had to come through the LCQ in order to make the main event, which meant he would start from the back of the pack. Teammate Mike Brown grabbed the holeshot toa take the early lead while Haaker rounded the first turn ion ninth place. Title rival and defending GEICO EnduroCross Champion Cody Webb quickly moved past Brown to take over the lead before the race was one lap old.
Haaker soon caught up to Red Bull KTM’s Taylor Robert, and the two began to move past the traffic in front of them. However, Robert crashed early in the race and dropped back to sixth place. Robert remounted and soon began to challenge Haaker again.
Haaker managed to catch Webb, and he managed to make a pass for the lead with two laps to go. Haaker went on to score a huge victory. Webb held on for second place, and Robert was able to move by Brown for third.
“To come from dead last and then win was unbelievable,” Haaker said. “I am really happy with my fitness and focus, and will do my best to take another win in Ontario. Thank you to the team and everyone that supports me!”
Anything is possible, but Webb does have a secure 10-point lead headed into the series finale at Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
“I rode really well tonight but struggled slightly in the main event,” Webb said. “I am happy to still hold a 10-point lead in the championship heading to the final round, but there is still a lot that can happen. I’m really excited to get to Ontario for the last race and hope to be on top of the box.”
