Husqvarna rider Andrew DeLong battled a stacked field and the wet conditions en route to a solid third-place finish in the XC1 Pro class aboard his factory Husqvarna FC 350 at the Car-Mate Mountain Ridge GNCC in Somerset, Pennsylvania, Sunday. He was fourth overall.

“I got out to a good start and went into the woods about eighth or ninth,” DeLong said. “I started picking guys off, but kept falling on the first lap. I couldn’t get anything going–I was sliding around and just couldn’t get myself together.”

Despite the mistakes, DeLong was consistent enough to stay inside the top 10 during the first half of the race. During the second half, DeLong relied on his physical conditioning to overcome the sloppy conditions and move through the field.

“I dropped the hammer and had some good lap times,” DeLong said. “I couldn’t stay off the ground to save my life, but I was able to maintain it and keep things going.”

DeLong’s third-place finish in the XC1 Pro class marked his second AMSOIL GNCC podium this season, but he wasn’t happy pleased with his result, stating that he felt he could have battled for the win.

“If I would have rode like I know how, I think I could have been up front but it was still a good day in the end-–a solid day for points,” he said.

DeLong’s brother, Craig DeLong, carded another victory in the 250cc A division and finished ninth overall. Fellow 250cc A racer Austin Lee made it three Husqvarna motorcycles inside the top 10 with his 10th overall finish.
