Kawasaki Team Green announced today its plan to support the 2015 AMA Grand National Championship flat track series by posting a generous contingency and backing one of the sport’s top stars.

Kawasaki is posting more than $75,000 in contingency for the top-level the GNC1 division, and it has also announced that it will be sponsoring series veteran Bryan Smith and his Crosley Brand/Howerton Motorsports/Villa-Esparza Kawasaki.

Kawasaki’s EX650 engine, which has powered such successful street models as the Versys 650 and the Ninja 650 has emerged as a true contender in flat track racing over the past four years, earning its first GNC twins victory in 2010 and helping the company to claim AMA Pro Flat Track Manufacturer of the Year honors over Harley-Davidson in 2012 and 2014.

Kawasaki Vice President of Marketing Chris Brull said that the move to expand its flat track support is a case of Kawasaki listening to its customers.

“Over the last four years we have seen competitors in the AMA Flat Track series choose Kawasaki, and we want to reward them for that choice,” Brull said. “Our Team Green program has been around for more than 30 years, and our renewed support of flat track racing shows how the Team Green program continues to evolve.”

Smith, who has received factory support with another team in the past, already has a long relationship with the Kawasaki brand. He was the first rider to earn a GNC Twins victory on a Kawasaki, and he has stuck with the Kawasaki EX650 engine over the past four years. Last year Smith and Kawasaki narrowly missed claiming the Grand National Championship, falling just three points shy of the title.

“It is great to see Kawasaki stepping up their support of AMA Pro Flat Track,” Smith said. “The Kawasaki EX650 is a great engine to base our bike off of, and I’m sure with this announcement we will see more riders choosing Kawasaki.”

To be eligible for contingency, racers must race with a Kawasaki engine and must submit an image of their race bike to Team Green and run the AMA Pro provided decals on the race bike and Kawasaki patch on their racing leathers. Prior to enrolling in the program, each participant must contact Team Green at 949-770-0400 ext. 2633 for additional information on how to enroll. Once signed up, racers will receive a Kawasaki Sales Rewards MasterCard that can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted.
