KTM Dream Race Contingency: More Momentum For Two-Strokes?

KTM is bolstering the FMF 125 Dream Race Triple Crown Invitational by offering contingency support for all three Lucas Oil Pro Motocross-support races.

While it may just a dream of ours to see return of two-strokes to the AMA National level in supercross or motocross, it sure is awesome to see the industry stepping up to support them with new products and special events such as the upcoming FMF 125 Dream Race Triple Crown Invitationals.

Now, KTM, easily the most staunch two-stroke OEM out of the “big five” dirtbike manufacturers is adding even more fuel to the two-stroke renaissance (that’s what we’re calling it anyway) by announcing a contingency program for the FMF 125 Dream Race Triple Crown Invitational. KTM just recently announced that it will become the first OEM to produce fuel-injected two-stroke dirtbikes.

Frankly, all this recent two-stroke activity gives us hope that we might possibly see the return to a true, premier 125cc championship series, at least at the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. And it makes perfect sense. After all, it’s easy to see how their more economical maintenance could offer easier rider access to the sport at the professional level, and their screaming exhaust note still sends chills up the spine, making them a real crowd pleaser.

Here is KTM’s press release regarding its support of the FMF 125 Dream Race Triple Crown Invitational:

MURRIETA, Calif.–KTM Motorsports is pleased to announce its contingency program for the FMF 125 Dream Race Triple Crown Invitational, set to run in conjunction with three rounds of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship this summer. Beginning with the Hangtown Motocross Classic on May 20, the FMF 125 Dream Race Triple Crown will also take place at the Thunder Valley National and the Washougal National.

KTM will offer contingency to any KTM rider that finishes inside the top three at each of the three rounds of the series. The payout breakdown is as follows: 1st place: $400, 2nd place: $200, 3rd place: $100. Additionally, if a KTM rider wins the overall championship, an additional $500 contingency payment will be awarded.
