For the first time in its 80-year history KTM celebrated the production of more than 100,000 motorcycles in one year at its headquarters in Mattighofen, Austria.

According to a company news release, at precisely 9 a.m., the 100,000th motorcycle produced in the business year 2014, a 2015 1190 Adventure, rolled off the assembly line. Since 1999, when the production line was started, more than 1.2 million vehicles have been produced.

KTM can trace its roots back to 1934, but the company really took off as a motorcycle manufacturer in 1953, when original founder Johann (Hans) Trunkenpolz partnered with Ernst Kronrief to form Kronrief & Trunkenpolz, Mattighoffen, from which the letters that make up its name are derived. The company produced its first motorcycle, the R100, in 1954. Although it won its first Austrian National Championship that same year, it took several years and a couple rough patches along the way for the company to become the industry giant that it is today.

Following insolvency In 1992, the company was split into four distinct four companies, of which KTM Sportmotorcycles GmbH is one. KTM Sportmotorcycles GmbH produces KTM motorcycles and is recognized as the flagship of the brand.
