The 35th Annual Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship came to a conclusion August 6, with the final day of amateur motocross action at the historic Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, with a total of 102 motos run and 37 National Championship titles delivered during the week.
Jalek Swoll’s earned the 125 (12-16) B/C National Championship, while Jett Reynolds scored his eighth career National title in the 85 (9-12) division. John Grewe swept to his third moto win of the week to claim undisputed ownership of the Masters 50+ National Championship. Grewe was so fast that he finished Saturday’s final class moto with a minute in hand over Pedro Gonzalez Sr. Jake Masterpool dominated the 450 B division with a three-moto sweep as well, while Jimmy Povolny landed the Senior 40+ class via 2-1-1 moto scores.
More Women’s titles fell on Saturday as well. Jordan Jarvis took home her second National Championship of the week in the Girls Sr. (12-16) class, and Tayler Allred swept the Girls Jr. (9-13) class for the National Championship.
The final 250 B Limited class moto got underway with Christopher Fortie jumping out to the early lead, but Mitchell Falk overtook Fortie early on the first lap. Falk pulled out to an insurmountable lead to claim the win and the class title while Dylan Walsh and Fortie battled for the runner-up spot. Walsh would ultimately claim second place over Fortie.
A real thriller took place in the final Vet 30+ class moto as championship contender Arik Swan ran outside the top 20 on the first lap. Swan was was able to fight his way through the pack to claim the lead on lap six. Swan swept his way to the class National Championship, and he plans to celebrate by making his Pro Motocross debut in one week at the Unadilla National MX in New Berlin, New York, next week.
Chase Sexton was expected to claim the Open Pro Sport National title, but when the final moto got underway Egan Mastin pulled the holeshot, only to “trade paint” with Cameron McAdoo, allowing Sean Cantrell to get around both riders for the lead. Meanwhile, Sexton snuck into a podium position and began to challenge Cantrell before nearly going over the bars in a rut. Sexton kept a cool head and crossed the finish line in second place to secure the Open Pro Sport National Championship.
The 65 (7-11) National Championship was still up for grabs as contenders Matt LeBlanc, Ryder DiFrancesco and Hunter Yoder all took to the gate for the final class moto. Although Yoder grabbed the moto win, LeBlanc’s 2-1-2 moto tally was good enough to put him claim the title.
Joey Crown grabbed the early lead in the 250 All-Star A/B (14+) class, but Austin Root and Jerry Robin ran right with him. Then Gordon Keck started applying pressure to Robin and made the pass for third, which effectively could have cost Robin the championship. However, Robin was well aware of the situation, and he was able to make a last-lap pass for third place to clinch the National Championship.
Championship contender Garrett Marchbanks had a disappointing final Schoolboy 2 (13-16) moto after he ditched his goggles on the first lap. Jordan Bailey landed the National Championship. The Super Mini 2 (13-16) title fell to Joe Shimoda, while the Mini Sr. 1 (12-13) title was captured by Dilan Schwartz. Kyle White went 1-2-2 to top the 250 C Limited division.
The 102nd and final moto of the week was the 250 C class, and it provided a final thrill for the event’s attendees. Although Stetson Johnson did not win a moto throughout the entire week, he managed to claim the 250 C National Championship with 4-3-7 moto finishes.
