Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna tabs Brit Nathan Watson to fill-in on a team decimated by injuries.
Great Britain’s Nathan Watson has been selected as an emergency fill-in for the Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory racing team in the FIM World Motocross Championship MX1 class, according to the team. Watson will be in action for the team at round 11 of the series in Teutschental, Germany, this weekend.
Watson was recruited following the announcement that Tyla Rattray would not be able to compete for at least four weeks after undergoing surgery for an injured thumb suffered at the GP of Italy last weekend. Waters has already been recovering from an injury.
Watson, 20, is already familiar with Husqvarnas, as he competes for Danetc Husqvarna UK. He scored MXGP points during round eight of the MXGP in Great Britain and has already won races in the British Motocross Championship.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to race for Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing this weekend and one I hope to make the most of,” Watson said. “I only got confirmation of the ride on Wednesday morning so everything is a little last-minute, but I want to do my best. Gaining more experience in the MXGP class and working with a factory-backed team is brilliant. and I’ll will give it 100 percent to do my best in Teutschental.”
Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing Team Manager Antti Pyrhönen that while it is unfortunate to have lost both Rattray and Waters to injuries this season, but the decision to bring up Watson allows the team to keep racing while also giving Watson the chance to compete in Germany.
“Obviously it comes at short notice so we don’t have any expectations for him at this race,” Pyrhönen said. “We just want him to enjoy the experience and get an understanding of what it is like to race for a factory team at the highest level in motocross.”
