The following is from the RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki racing team, regarding this weekend’s Arlington Supercross:
CHINO, Calif. (February 10, 2017)–Madison Square Garden. Fenway Park. Augusta National. Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Without a doubt, those four iconic names are some of the most famous sporting venues in the United States, if not the world.
Few basketball players have taken to the hardwood without having dreamt of sinking a shot at the buzzer to win at the most famous arena in the NBA. Sandlot baseball games are born of visions of hitting a walk-off over the Green Monster. Careers in golf are inspired by dreams of sinking a 30-footer to win The Masters. Nothing drove Rick Mears like seeing the checkered flag at the Indianapolis 500.
In the same vein, a Monster Energy AMA Supercross win at AT&T Stadium – home of the Dallas Cowboys, Super Bowl XLV, the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship and the Cotton Bowl Classic – is on every rider’s bucket list.
Much like Mears at Indianapolis, nothing drives RCH/Yoshimura/Suzuki Factory Racing riders Justin Bogle and Broc Tickle quite like visions of the podium tomorrow night in Arlington, Texas. In fact, Bogle even calls it “his favorite race of the year.”
“There’s just something about the race in Dallas,” commented Bogle. “The vibe is always a little more energetic and the crowd is incredible. AT&T Stadium is about four hours from where I grew up so it’s as close to home, for me, as the series gets. I’ve always done pretty well when we race in Texas so it’s a good track for me. Hopefully, I can get the monkey off my back this weekend and have a solid ride in the main event. It’s all about having a good attitude and being better than we were the week before. I’ve got the right bike and the right team behind me so I’m excited about Saturday.”
Bogle’s lone 450SX start in Arlington came last February where he finished 18th. Prior to last season, the Cushing, Okla., rider made three 250SX starts at the famed stadium built by Texas billionaire Jerry Jones where he notched a venue-best second-place effort. In four total starts at AT&T Stadium, in both 450 and 250 competition, Bogle has logged a sturdy 9.75 average finish.
Tickle watched last season’s trip to suburban Dallas from the sidelines with an injury but in four previous 450SX starts at the 80,000-seat venue, the rider of the RCH-owned No. 20 machine has a solid 9.25 average finish. Meanwhile, Tickle’s best Arlington finish aboard a 450 came in 2014 when he finished seventh.
“AT&T Stadium has been a good track for me,” explained Tickle. “For whatever reason, it’s one of those places where I always feel good when I get there and that seems to translate into results. I like the dirt a lot and the fans in Texas are always incredible. The worst I’ve finished in Dallas on a 450 was 11th so I don’t think a top 10 is out of reach at all.”
Last weekend in Oakland, Tickle recovered from a challenging start in the main event and made the most out of his night. The Holly, Mich., rider made a spirited charge from deep in the field and came up just one spot short of his first top 10 of the year.
“I basically did everything the way I wanted with the exception of the main,” said Tickle. “I got off to a terrible start but I made a couple passes and was 11th or 12th for most of the night. The conditions were tough but all in all, it was a step in the right direction. There were definitely some positives. We’re in a good place. The goal this weekend is to keep moving forward and be better than we were last week. I need to follow my plan and execute and everything should be good.”
Before the action gets going at the track, Bogle and Tickle will meet fans and sign autographs tonight from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Freedom Powersports.
