Texas home-stater and Husqvarna TiLUBE TUF Racing rider Kyle Regal became the winningest AMSOIL Arenacross rider of the season when he wrangled his fifth overall win of the season at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, Saturday night. With the win, Regal moved back into the lead of the AMSOIL Arenacross Series Race to the Championship.

Regal got the ball rolling when he grabbed the holeshot ahead of Team Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Chris Blose, the Race to the Championship leader coming into Austin, and ThermoTec/FMC Racing Yamaha’s Bobby Kiniry in the first Arenacross main event of the night. The front three positions stayed the same until Regal bumped with Slaka Wear KTM’s Steven Mages right before the finish line jump on lap 12. Regal was forced to single the jump, and Mages hit the ground. In the process, Mages clipped Blose and the impact smashed Blose’s exhaust pipe. Blose would be forced to pull of of the race out of the race because of the damage.

Regal was able to maintain his lead to the finish, while Kiniry moved into second and Team Babbitt’s Jacob Hayes ran third. Motosport.com/Haeseker Racing KTM’s Gared Steinke and TZR/Woodstock KTM’s Travis Sewell finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

After his luck in the first main event, Regal’s inversion card pick was about as unlucky as it gets; he drew the number 16, which meant the entire field would be inverted, giving him the last gate pick.

Regal got caught up in a melee off the start and crashed, remounting in 13th position while Blose took the lead ahead of his Team Babbitt’s teammate Matt Goerke and Locks Racing KTM’s Jake Locks. Kiniry ran sixth, and Hayes was mired 10th.

Blose and Goerke ran one-two, while Husqvarna TiLUBE TUF Racing’s Gavin Faith moved into third place. A red flag on lap four would have a significant impact on the race as it allowed Regal to get much closer to the leaders via the staggered, single-file restart. When racing resumed, Blose, Goerke and Faith continued their battle out front, but Hayes and Regal took advantage of their closer position to slot into fifth and sixth respectively, behind Kiniry.

Faith got a little too aggressive in his effort to overtake Goerke for third place, and the two made contact on lap nine, causing them to crash. Hayes took advantage of their misfortune to move up and pass Kiniry for second place. That put Regal fourth, and he was able to get around Kiniry for third place on lap 11. Blose took an easy win, followee by Hayes and Regal. Kiniry was fourth, and Babbitt’s Online Suzuki’s Cory Green was fifth. Goerke battled back to sixth after his crash, while Faith crossed the line in eighth.

Regal’s 1-3 finishes gave him a one-point edge over Hayes (3-2) in the oveall tally. Kiniry (2-4) was overall Green (7-5) fourth and Sewell (5-7) fifth.

Earlier in the evening Blose and Regal were the finalists in the RMATV/MC Head 2 Head Challenge, which Blose won, earning an additional championship bonus point. Blose (14-1) finished sixth overall on the night.

Regal entered the night third in the Race to the Championship standings, but his win put him back in the lead. He is now four points ahead of Blose and six points ahead of Hayes, who jumped from fifth to third. Kiniry is an additional point back in fourth (-7), while Goerke is fifth (-10).

In the Western Regional Arenacross Lites Class, Motosport.com/Haeseker Racing KTM’s Daniel Blair earned a dominant win to extend his lead in the championship. Blair was already 19 points adrift of the field in the standings, and he would distance himself even farther in the Austin main event.

Blair, College Hunks Hauling Junk/Spinechillers Racing KTM’s Dave Ginolfi and TZR/Woodstock KTM’s Scott Zont engaged in heated battle for the Metro PCS Blazing Fast Western Regional Arenacross Lites main event win, but Blair was able to move into the lead with Ginolfi on his rear fender. Once the top three slotted into position, the running order up front stayed the same for the rest of the 15-lap main. Ginolfi stayed within about 1 second of Blair all the way to the finish, but Blair leader led every lap of the race en route to his third win of the season. Blair now sits 35 points ahead of TZR/Woodstock KTM’s Cody VanBuskirk.
