Former AMA National Enduro Champion Andrew DeLong will go under the knife to repair a nagging wrist injury.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing has announced that 2014 Kenda AMA National Enduro Champion and AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) competitor Andrew DeLong will undergo surgery to repair an injured wrist and will be out of action for most of the 2016 off-road racing season.
The injury occurred 8 months ago, but DeLong continued to compete despite the damage. Last week, after the first round of the 2016 AMSOIL GNCC Series, DeLong visited a hand specialist and found that his Scapholunate Ligament has been torn. The Scapholunate Ligament holds the two bones together in the wrist to give strength in the hand and fingers.
DeLong will have to undergo two surgeries to repair the injury. The first surgery is scheduled for Monday, March 21, 2016. At that time the surgeon will cut out the old ligament, which has died due to lack of blood flow, then another surgery will be performed to cut a small tendon out of his forearm to serve as a replacement. DeLong is expected to be out for 3-4 months before starting hand therapy in order to regain strength before he can start racing again.
In a press release, DeLong thanked the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing “for standing behind me through these two rough seasons. Hopefully we get this all fixed up and I can get back to running up front on my FC 450!”
