Former Kenda AMA National Enduro Champion Russell Bobbitt scored the win at the Boyesen 2-Stroke Revolution Cherokee National Enduro, round four of the 2016 Kenda AMA National Enduro Series, in Greensboro, Georgia, yesterday.

The FMF/KTM Factory Racing-backed Bobbitt finally broke his string of runner-up finishes at the first three rounds of the series in dominant fashion despite nursing a shoulder injury. He won four of the six special test and finished the event to claim a fairly easy win over runner-up and previous round winner Steward Baylor.

“The conditions were epic,” Bobbitt said. “Everyone was scared it was going to be a mud fest, but it was perfect. I felt confident with the conditions, and I was feeling good on the bike and I just missed winning the first test by a second or two and then I won the next four. The last test, I missed winning it by just a second, so I was on my game. I didn’t have any tip-overs or stalls, so it was a nearly perfect day.”

The win moved Bobbitt 11 points ahead of Steward Baylor in the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series. Steward Baylor won the final test en route to second overall and moved ahead of his brother, Grant Baylor, in the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series points standings.

“I hit the deck a couple of times, but all in all, it was a good day for points,” Steward Baylor said. “I just didn’t have anything for Bobbitt, he was on his game and you could tell he came into this race to win it.”

Cory Buttrick survived the loss of his rear brake pedal near the beginning of the second test to finish third overall.

“I thought I pretty much blew my chances when I lost my brake pedal,” Buttrick said. “But once I got through that test I strung together some good rides.”

Beta USA’s Jesse Groemm won the first test of the day, but crashes in the second test dropped him to 11th in that test. Groemm played catch-up the rest of the day, coming on strong toward the end of the event to finish fourth overall, ahead of N-Fab/Am Pro Yamaha’s Grant Baylor, who is coming off a shoulder separation.

Zac Brown won the Rekluse Expert-AA class, beating fellow KTM rider Dylan MacRitchie by just over 2 minutes. Jake Froman was third. FMF/KTM’s Kacy Martinez took another win in the Women’s A/B division, beating KTM rider Shawn Davison by just 20 seconds. ISDE competitor Rachel Gutish finished second on a KTM.

The Kenda AMA National Enduro Series resumes action on June 19th in Huntersville, Minnesota for the Huntersville National Enduro. For more information on the Kenda AMA National Enduro Series check out www.nationalenduro.com.
