Bogers, who joined the team to race the MXGP class in the 2018 FIM Motocross World Championship, crashed while riding at the Ponte Sfondato motocross track in Rome, Italy. He was tended to by track medical staff before being transported to the local hospital. After further assessment, he was moved to a clinic where he underwent a two-hour surgery to insert a fixator for what is being described as a complex fracture-dislocation of the right foot.

Bogers then returned home to Belgium on November 26 where he received further evaluation at which point it was determined that he would need another oeration to “effect a full reduction and fixation on the foot.”

Bogers and Team HRC are now hoping that he can be back in action in three months, and he is expected to make his Team HRC factory team debut aboard his number 5 Honda CRF450RW “as soon as practically and safely possible.” The release stated that Honda and HRC are fully supporting Bogers in his full recovery and return to racing.

After finishing eighth in the MX2 class in the 2017 FIM Motocross World Championship, Bogers put together 12-9 scores at the 2017 Motocross of Nations to help the Netherlands finish second in the Nations standings, behind France.
