Stefan Everts is easily the greatest motocross racer in the history of the Motocross World Championships, and very close to the greatest in the history of the sport. Everts came from a racing family, as the son of Harry Everts, and was born to win. He was the second-ever “Mr. 875cc” in the GPs (after fellow Belgian Eric Geboers), but went beyond that to continue winning championships through three different eras of MXGP racing. During the DORNA era, where all three classes raced one moto on the same day, Everts even managed to win all three classes in Ernee, France, in 2003. Everts won championships aboard all four Japanese motorcycle brands (before retiring and then going to work for KTM, whom he never raced for), and in his last-ever race, Everts dominated both motos at the 2006 Motocross des Nations in Matterly Basin, UK (where the race will be again this year) in front of none other than James Stewart (after Ricky Carmichael was forced out of the event with an injury suffered at the AMA season-finale Glen Helen National). He now runs Suzuki’s factory MXGP race outfit. Simply put, Everts is a king of moto kings. He’s just not the GOAT.
