6. Kurt Caselli
Kurt Caselli is one of two racers on our list worthy of a comic book superhero title. At the time of his tragic passing while leading the home stretch of the 2013 Baja 1000, “Captain America” was on a meteoric path toward international off-road superstardom. A Southern California native, Caselli grew up in the desert, and he was driven to excel in the District 37 desert racing scene. He went on to win three consecutive AMA National Hare & Hound Championships in 2011, 2012 and 2013, and he was a member of the Red Bull KTM Factory Rally team where he had scored stage wins in the Dakar Rally and won the 2013 Desafio Ruta 40 Rally in Argentina. Caselli took his own race preparation to new levels, and he was known as a smooth and precise rider in rough terrain—the more technical the better. Kurt Caselli’s career was really just hitting its stride when he was taken from us, but he left a hell of a bootprint while he was here.
