1. Eli Tomac seals the deal on his career-first 450 Pro Motocross Championship.
Eli Tomac has been “the man to beat” for a number of years, even though the championships continued to slip right through his fingers. It’s no doubt that Tomac has been, one of the fastest, if not the fastest in the 450cc class for a number of years now. His raw speed and talent aboard his race craft has rocketed him toward the top of the leader board season after season.
In 2015, Tomac was off to a perfect start to the season, winning the first five of six motos before going down hard in the second moto at his home race in Thunder Valley, Colorado, completely destroying both of his shoulders and bringing his perfect season to a screeching halt.
As Tomac kept inching towards his first championship, one thing or another kept him from the winner’s circle. Even in the 2017 Supercross season, Tomac had, by far, the most wins in the field, with nine wins, but even that couldn’t seal the deal for him.
With the announcement of Ryan Dungey’s retirement prior to the start of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross season, it seemed like Tomac was the man to beat. But even with the championship hunt wide-open, Tomac had to wait until the final moto before emerging victorious. Finally, after years of painful losses, Tomac earned his elusive career-first Lucas Oil 450cc Pro Motocross Championship. It was a long time coming.
