The “Flying Dutchman”, as he is known overseas, Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings opted to race Round 12 of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship Series, the Ironman National, in preparation for the MXGP of USA taking place one week later in Florida. All of the pieces fell into place when Red Bull KTM offered to bring Herlings under U.S. team tent where he would ride Trey Canard’s bike.

Jeffrey Herlings came to America and kicked major butt in his Lucas Oil Pro Motocross debut, posting a 1-1 sweep against the Lucas Oil 450cc regulars on a bike he had only tested just a few days before the race. PHOTO BY RAS PHOTO.

After a mere day in the states and very little time on the bike, Herlings was ready to line up for his U.S. racing debut. Sure, people probably expected the multi-time champion to do reasonably well when matched with some of the States’ fastest competitors, but no one could have expected what happened next. Herlings laid down the fastest qualifying lap time of the day and then went and put on a clinic. He absolutely obliterated the rest of the field and finished 1-1 on the day–even after being in almost dead last off the start during Moto 2. Herlings’ domination earned him his career-first U.S. victory as well.
